What are the best areas of Dublin to rent in?

I would try to avoid Ballymun and Finglas. They're a little rough. I live in Drumcondra and it's really nice and close to town!

northside is cheaper, phibsboro is ok. avoid ballymun, finglas, cabra in some parts, coolock in most parts...etc...

if you can afford to live in rathmines then do so its absolutely perfect. ive rented 5 different places around rathmines over the years and never want to leave!

Northside is generally cheaper than the Southside - and its a h**l of a lot easier to get into town from (buses better and less traffic).
