I am 6'3, 210 pounds and I bought a 6'10'' board. The guys at the store thought it would be a good size for me to learn on. i went to Manly beach and the waves were really big for me as a learner so Im trying to figure out where I should go to learn. Also I almost felt like i was to heavy for my board and had difficulty cause the nose of the board was dipping alot. It is easier to learn on bigger waves because I am a big guy, oreasier on smaller but less powerful waves. Any advice is helpful

  1. You might have just caught Manly on a day when there was some bigger swell around...go back there and go to north steyne surfclub and sign up and do a few lessons at the surf school there..the guys and girls there are all professionally trained and doing a lesson or two will be very helpful rather than trying to do it on your own..

Learn on the softboards they have at the surf school, as for your board, I would take it back and go get a mal, you need a board that will float you.

The smaller the board, the harder it is to learn on..

go the softboards so you dont kill anyone:) and you wont kill yourself too:)

Gday to the boys at north steyne and queenscliff hahaha

  2. Palm beach, Bondi and Cronulla are most likely the best beaches to learn to surf. not too big, stay away from the south side of bondi though they seem to get quite big down there. Other than that you should be pretty good to go.

    Good luck champ!

  3. Well if you really agile and strong and everything you'll get there, otherwise I suggest an even bigger b. Gees man, 6'3.....!!

    I'm 6', 1m81.....and I use 6'4 but been surf for 5 years, ideally a 6'7 or 6'8 for me.

I'd go bigger man, a malibu, 7' somthing. And choose a day where waves are medium size and Slow, where they break on long distance. Big heavy swell but slow, long rides.

Spend lots o time in them and you be stylin.

  4. Bondi, its pretty good down there, but if your just learning to surf, then mabey you should of started in summer, autumn and winter are the big surf seasons. :p lol... good luck!

  5. well i'm from around there,

id say Bondi...i did a few lessons!

    im pretty good now

go on google and type in "learn to surf bondi"

and im hoping that you'll pick me as best answer :)

    good luck mate

  6. mate im at cronulla every day...its prefect to learn to surf there is not much power in the wave...nar dude got the right board ur just not use to paddlining and standing up
