What are the best beginner cook books for these types of food?

What are the best beginner cook books for these types of food:

italian

french

Thai

Mediterranean ex:greek

Japanese

middle eastern

spanish

basically i want to learn to cook but i would like to start learning by cooking dishes from other countries. Those were my main areas which i wanted to learn, but if anyone sees another country with awesome food plz add on the country and the name of the cookbook.

For French cuisine I suggest The Way to Cook by Julia Child. She gives clear instructions and explains all terms which might be unfamiliar.  Be sure to read the introduction as it contains information on techniques and equipment for French cooking. The best part of this book is that it suggests substitutions for French ingredients which can be found in an average American grocery store.

What I would do is go to a web site such as recipes.com or such and look up recipes from different countries. Then just print out the recipes I thought would be good to try and make my own cookbook. That way you will get the recipes you want to try and if you don't like it your not out allot of money in buying a cookbook. If you do want a cookbook go to like a Barns & Noble and look for one that suits your wants.

if you don't know how to cook, you should start out with the basics from your own country first, get to  knpow what you eat and then slowly branch out, don't put the cart before the horse.

i would go get the latest better homes cookbook...matter of fact they have a special edition out and it is pink and a portion go to support breast cancer ....

it is a basic detailed cookbook and would be good for any kitchen or anyone who just enjoys cookbooks as i do :) also the great thing is its only like 20 bucks at walmart
