  1. Depends on the site you want to upload it to. If your thinking Youtube, then pretty much anything will do, as Youtube compresses everything so much. If your talking Vimeo, then you'll need something pretty good cause Vimeo can do HD.

Just pick some features you want, like Image Stabilization or zoom of whatever and find the best price for you. You can ask again once you find the cam you like and ask whether it seems good for the price range.

  3. There isn't much difference between quality for online or not online. You always want to start with the best video quality you can, the compress (reducing quality) depending on what your audience needs.

I agree with the other poster who said miniDV tape is the best place to start. This is because DV or HDV (the standard definition or high definition formats stored to miniDV tape) are much less compressed than the MPEG2 or AVCHD counterparts in the HDD or flash memory camcorders.

And the new YouTube "high quality" option if you upload H.264 720p video looks pretty good... it looks a lot better than the standard definition compressed stuff we are all use to watching there. And Vimeo.com is AWESOME.

  4. any camera you get, make sure is a mini dv tape camera. You might think those hard drive cameras are great, but for better quality video choose a mini dv tape camera. plus they use firewire uploading so you can stream and use it as a webcam too. good luck.
