How much will I expect to pay and is it better to reserve a car from here--the US-- before I go?

It depends where you arrive in Spain but Avis and Budget have offices at most airports, Europcar are reasonably priced, in the south Crown are one of the cheapest.

Costs vary but expect to pay around 250€ per week, all companys require a deposit on your credit card at the time of collection, usually about 300€ (refundable)
