I'll be 16 soon and I'm getting a car for Christmas. I have a few in mind already (XTerra, Volvo Sedan V90, Volkswagen Jetta) but I want to have a lot of options. I'm getting a used car. It needs to have good gas mileage too.

  1. I'll be 16 soon too so I know how it is...

stay away from the Volvo and VW.. The repairs are very expensive for those type of vehicles. I think you wont to have more money in your pocket than the auto repair shop.

Nissan Xterra is nice. Its very safe too. It has the strongest roof in its class, this is nice since SUV's are prone to rollover. But if you take your time and drive like you have sense rollover wont be a problem to you.

Here are some good cars I am thinking about and I reccommend:

    Honda Civic- all model years

Toyota Camry-1992-1996 are the most attractive years in my eye.

    Toyota Solara 2000-2002

    Toyota Corolla- All model years

    Chevy Impala-2000-2005/Monte Carlo 2006

    Chevy Malibu-all model years

    Hyundai Tiburon 2004- now

    Hyundai Sonata-1999- now

    Hyundai Elantra2003- now

    Ford Focus 2004-now

    Chevy Cobalt- all models

    Nissan Maxima/Altima-all models

    Scion TC

    Saturn LS2 V6

    Like SUV's I DOO!!

SUV's dont handle like cars so no sharp turns, speeding drive like you are guarding 1 million dollars..

    Toyota 4runner

    Nissan Xterra

    Jeep Liberty

    GMC Envoy

    Others...

    Hope I could help

no drugs or alcohol while driving! remember that!! :)

  2. Number one should be reliability 'cause who has the money to keep fixing it?  Forget the VW, they are terribly unreliable!  Look at some websites and see whose cars come out ahead.

Second, safety (maybe first?) because you're a new driver and statistically newer drivers get into accidents more than more experienced drivers.  Well, until they get post-retirement age, when the numbers go back up.  I know, I know, you're so good you could be the next nascar superstar, but some jerk could also t-bone you through a red light.  Better not to be a paraplegic if you have the choice, and you do.

Next economy of operation.  Both fuel efficiency and the cost for maintaining the vehicle.

I suppose next would be preference for how many seats, off road or snow ability, handling, towing, etc...

Have fun, there are many vehicles out there!

  3. Go for a Honda or a Toyota.  They get great mileage with very little mechanical problems and they run forever!

I got my son a '99 Honda Civic before he turned 16.  He is now 21 and in college.  It is still running great!

  4. Xterra would get lousy gas mileage, my mom has one.

92-95 Honda Civics get unbelievable gas mileage. The most efficient trim the VX Hatchback gets 48 city and 55 highway mpg.
