I have to race and win, so please give me something that is lightweight and will go far. If this helps, I'm designing it from a block of wood.

  1. A wedge shape is the best.  Make it kind of cone shaped towards the front and half circled at the back.  If you have time make a couple samples and see which works best for you.

But, here's quick search for you on building a pinewood derby car:

Just remember if you need a certain weight to watch how much you cut out and where you place the weights at in your car.  Also, the paint you add to it will add to the weight.

    Good Luck with you project.

  2. Good luck with building a car, my son wanted one for his race. My husband and I are not wood cutters. The car came in well last. my son loved the car even in last. I did after it was all said and done found some sites that you can buy a car and then you paint and design it. They are pre-cut, legal cars. Good luck with the building, hope you win!
