Question:

What are the best/easiest plants to pot in containers for outdoors?

We decided not to plant any shrubs/trees in the ground around our pool and instead opted to go with potted plants and trees. So far I have a few majesty palms (and they are persnickity) but before I go out and spend alot money on something that is not "pot/container friendly" - what types of plants/trees or other types of palms are easy to care for and thrive in a container/pot. The pool area gets full sun and I live in the humid southeast (Georgia). I promise to faithfully water and feed any plants, but just struggling with "what". I have googled the internet and keep finding information on "indoor" plants, but I am finding I am not "hitting" the "outdoor" potted plant information. Any gardeners out there with any advice on what to avoid and any advice on what I should try? I don't want anything I have to plant year after year either. Also, I do plan on bringing in pots in the winter. I have an insulated garage that gets full north-west sun (I have 5 huge windows). Thanx!

  1. I find herbs like rosemary, mint, or chives are good to grow in pots.

  2. Geraniums, pelagonians,Azaleas,New Guinea impatiens, miniature roses,daphne,lavender.

  3. Pampas grass!  It grows thick and has tall flowers that look

like plumes of white feathers.  I don't know how they would

grow in containers, you would have to have pretty large

containers.  My husband used to be a soil erosion inspector

down in Georgia and he told me they would grow in large

containers  We lived in Georgia nearly 48 years and I've

seen Pampas grass growing like hedges.  It provides privacy.

Have fun in Georgia, I really miss it except the hot humid

    summers.

  4. Hibiscus trees, cannas,crotons,geraniums,rose tree,fountain grass, daisys, mandavilla vine(would need a treelis)gets big!
