I'm about a 90-100 golfer, but I feel if I use a better ball I could get better scores. I hit irons real well, but suck at putting. My drive is 175 worst - 250 best. I use a Cleveland HiBore driver and nike ignite irons, w/ a nike putter. Let me know what you think is the best ball, and what is the best ball for its value since ProVs are $45/ dozen

  1. Buy Titliest  NXT Tour  good golf balls for reasonable price

  2. Callaway HX Hot or HX Hot Bite

    Bridgestone E5 or E6

    Titleist NXT Tour

These are all in the $25 range. I personally dont care for nike balls. The three above are my preferred ball, in that order.

  3. Nike

  4. practice and lessons will be your best bet on lowering your scores, but i think srixon makes a great ball for the money and a harder cover will be better for your distance.  buy a bunch and see what you like - prob more psychological than anything for you right now.

  10. Don't listen to people who say a golf ball is a golf ball. Especially for high handicappers.

If you want to improve, use a good ball!

I was on the same thought of those people and listened to their advice. I bought 'cheap' balls, $15.99 or lower a dozen, and hit them well. They flew far off the driver, I putted them well (although they felt like rocks), but where the difference was around the greens. 120 yard shots would land on the green and run. Shorter pitches would roll pass the flag even if I hit them really short.

My friends were thinking I was just drawing the ball more, pulling my shots, flying them lower and the ball would naturally roll more.

Well, someone gave me a box of ProV1x for Christmas.

I took them out of the box, intimidated by the fact I was using expensive 'tour' balls.

Any shot 100 yards in just nailed the green and stopped on a dime! Putting felt better and led to more Confidence.  Getting them to spin and roll the right distance was a change because I was so used to the other balls that would roll forever.

Since then breaking 90 is easier because my shots were staying on the green. The balls were going 'my distance' and staying there!

Trust me... good balls make a world of difference to your work around the green.

And then, I came across this quote in Golf Magazine on Finding the right ball for you.

"It's more important for the average player to pick the right ball than it is for the better player. Most mid- to higher handicappers choose hard, inexpensive, low-spinning balls that rob them of enough lift to overcome drag. This costs distance. Then, when they fail to reach the green in regulation, they have to chip and putt with the most difficult products on the market to control around the green." — Mitch Voges, founder, Max Out Golf and cofounder, golfballselector.com

Wow... makes alot of sense now. And yeah, don't listen to those people who says not to use good balls. Even if they are single handicappers. You need to improve. They might not need to, or, don't see the need to have balls stop on a dime, feel soft with a wedge or short iron, or want to lower their scores like us.

I'm sold on Titleist ProV1x and the Titleist NXT tour. I've tried the ProV1(I like the distance of the x) and the NXT Extreme(harder ball). The ball improved my game and helped lower my score.
