  1. Since you are ski racing, the best answer should come from your coach and the ski technicians he works with.  So much depends on your height, weight, style and most of all your ability.  As to the performance of the ski for gripping the course, it will change with the tune of the ski. More base bevel will give an easier turn initiation, more side bevel will give a better grip up to about 2.5 degrees.  Ask your coach about any recommendations, bear in mind that he may be a brand rep and have a vested interest in one brand vs another.

Most European racers were "factory team" racers for years.  Every racer used one brand and made a living from representing that brand on the podium.

As to what is the best race ski for you, you need to analyze yourself, try to go to race camps this summer, there you will get a chance to try several different brand and models tuned for racing.  A public demo day will not get you the info you need, those skiis are tuned for the general public, not for racing. If a ski is not tuned properly for you, you will not ski it correctly and probably will hate them for a long time.   Since the race season is ending I guess you are looking for next years equipment, the summer camps are your best bet.

Research ski tuning and waxing, be prepared to be overwhelmed with information.  You might go to a Goodwill or St. Vinnie's and buy an old junk pair and practice sharpening edges so you understand how it is done and why.  Good luck.
