What are the best jobs in Saudi Arabia?

I got a full scholarship here in the U.S. from Saudi Arabia, in five years, I'm going back in Saudi Arabia to get a job. I am currently in Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering - I am actually interested in Energy /etc..

But I have heard that the Petroleum jobs in Saudi Arabia are grueling and tiring and I am not really fit for a lot of physical work.

I would switch to Chemical Engineering in order to work for companies like SABIC, however, I am not really interested in Chemestery at all.

I am interested in Energy, IT (Information Technology)..

Will I get a good job if I switch to Energy Engineering?

Like I said, I don't want to limit my job opportunities to just working with Aramco in the desert.

Thanks.

  1. petroleum engineers are getting high salaries in Aramco and only few are qualified.....its better to work in a company with pride which means you are one of the lucky fews to experience prestige, good money and sacrifices in Aramco.....don't limit yourselves to work that requires physical work, its a challenge for every aspiring individuals who wants to be on top always. pysical work is always part of a good job........

  2. Aramco isnt all just about the "desert".. and why cant you work for Aramco like for 4 years or so to get a start and experience, then they will look good on any resume in case you change your mind.. Excellent benefits with Aramco.. who knows.. you might can move within the company ... Give it a shot at least...

  3. Yes u r right about the high load of physical work.

Well as u r in Petrolium & Natural Gas Eng and willing to change ur career path, I`d sujjest something related somehow to ur profession.

I dunno about the Energy Eng feild here in Saudi, but moving to IT sounds weird! An amazing career will be waiting for u in Saudi if u specialize in the field of Industrial Engineering/Management, it`s really hitting the ground in the gulf area in general.

    Wish you all the best.

  4. The best is something relative that depends on your likes and dislikes.

That said... many of us are forced by society, or by life, to study things we dont really want to study because the pay is better.

During my days, the way to go was computers.. jobs paid well.. I ended up doing business... and friends got their Master degrees in Management...  they didnt want to spend the rest of their lives being technicians behind computer screens.. while others get the higher positions.. while the highest you get is head of IT department.

So even if you do work in the field for a while it wont be forever.. and when you get your Masters in management ( very likely to happen ) then you can have an administrative position with a technical background and have an advantage over people who dont have technical backgrounds.

In Saudi.. the way to go is law..

Then finance and engineering of all kinds..

Just keep in mind if you take the engineering route you will either be really into it and enjoying it and choose to be a scientist and maybe even get your Masters in the same or a similar field.. or get a Masters degree in management.. and be a manager with a technical background that many managers dont have.

Technical knowledge isnt necessary only in the field.. but required even in markering and other manegarial positions.

Good luck and wish you the best
