Not as in tropical pet fish, but fish for consumption. I plan to do this in a climate which has a cold winter and hot summers.

  1. Beta fish.

  2. crayfish.

  3. carp is the best any variety will work

    but use carp

  4. trouts. you only need some sweet water pond

  5. goldfish

  6. Carps are better, they grow fast and you may remove them for sale before it is too cold; in spite of their size.

Cat fishes is second choice, they may tolerate cooler temperatures than carps. They will need greater diet in terms of fats, to survive winter.

  7. I suspect that salmon is the fish that has the greatest total profit.  However, there are issues about environmental consequences.

  8. gold fish they die so fast the parents will race back to replace it before the kid finds out.

  9. Catfish

  10. Ask a local fish merchant what fish people will pay most for, and narrow it down to those you can grow.

I was fishing off the West coast of N America and south coast of Alaska we sold the bulk of our food to a Japanese packing ship, but would make runs into cities to sell species in local demand to get much higher prices.

It can be economical to feed a low value species to be used as food for a high priced. But demand does change and you need to repeatedly re-test the market demand, change to suit it.

  11. If you live in a warmer climate the fastest growing and most profitable fish is the Tilapia. With a colder winter the Catfish is still the best fish to farm.

  12. A trout farm comes to mind, however I am assuming you mean like tropical fish or ones you raise in a tank. I would say the Bettachris for tropical,  But for smaller freshwater fish, the best bet to make any money is to breed is the Discus.
