What are the best organizations to go through in order to study abroad for a semester?

Question

I have recently been entertaining the idea of studying abroad for a semester or maybe a summer session, the problem is that i dont know what organizations are reputable or not. I would also like to know a little bit more about any of these programs. Any advice or input is much appreciated.

I'm not sure yet which countries i'd like to apply to but, if you have any ideas, go ahead and tell me about them.

Check out this website if you are a college student. You can search by subject or country. The fees may look expensive, but the support they offer is amazing. Very good to have people there if any concerns crop up while abroad.

Well I'm not sure how old you are, but I'm going to assume that you're a high school and not a college student.  You should check out AFS, YFU and Rotary, all of which are reputable.

If you have the opportunity, I highly suggest you at least consider doing a year abroad, as it's much more valuable in many ways than a shorter program.

In terms of what countries to apply to, there will be quite a few factors to consider:

- What countries does the program you want to go with offer?   What are the age requirements?  Are there any language requirements?

- How much does going to that particular country cost?  AFS and YFU (I think) have different fees depending on what country you go to.  Some countries, such as Japan are expensive to live in, which means that your living expenses like spending money etc will cost more, while countries in Africa and some parts of Latin America will be cheaper.

- What language do you want to learn?  Have you studied a language before?  Do you want to continue studying that language or do you prefer to learn a new one?  Do you have plans to use your new language skills after you return from your exchange?

I could go on and on.  Exchange is great!
