I like Primal Wear shorts.  They are a baggier short with a padded liner.  Pretty comfortable and they look good.  I have a black and a grey pair.  

I bought them at Mountain Equipment Co-op.  I don't remember what I paid, but I believe it was under $40.

My favorite are Pearl Izumi Microsensor bib shorts. I have a set of Assos F1-13S2s and they feel good but the PI padding is more comfortable to me.
