  2. As an avid recreational tech as well as what I do for a living commercially......anywhere.  I simply don't care s long as there is a wreck to dive or work to do. Fish on a reef? I can look at them in an aquarium. I'm often punching large & small mouth bass in the face to get them out of my work space.Try putting a historical wreck in one of those little glass houses. Don't get me wrong, it's nice to warm water dive  on occasion, it's just not what I care about as much. I like history and geology. Not something you'll usually find on a warm water shallow reef and still recognizable as such. Warm , salt water is great for most marine life. Not for anyone interested in ship wrecks that given their age and their materials, are relatively intact.

Myself? The Great Lakes in North America. Anywhere here really since  there are over 5, 000 wrecks of schooner size and up and only a little over half have been found, surveyed and protected. There are even war of 1812 war ships. Recent history compared to say, The British Naval vessel Mary Rose built in 1509 or there abouts, but still something to relive, understand circumstances and visit something few do. It's sometimes almost like going back in time and seeing a vessel,  her crew and Master's last moments before she slipped under. You can see what crockery was on the stove for dinner when some of these vessels went down.

But I also get to dive something 10,000 years old. The effects of ice age glaciers around here. Geological formations, glacial scrape and even caverns.

My choice? Here. Great Lakes diving. Second choice would be Scapa Flo for more wrecks, third is Truk.

Reef? Cozumel. Part of the second largest barrier reef in the world and dirt cheap to dive. Some Pacific species are there now as well. Why spend the bucks on Aussie airfare if you have a similar aquatic playgound next door?

  3. Tubbataha Reef up in the philipeans (is that the spelling srry) or ine GBR near cairns there is a ;little town there is greta or try down in huskison on the south coast of nsw not the best but ym local spot...

  4. Try Tubbataha Reef located in the Philippines, one of the best diving sites and was declared as a UNESCO Heritage Site in  1993 in recognition of its outstanding universal value in terms of marine life species diversity and richness.
