  1. You will find decent haggis in any butcher in Scotland although there are a few that are renowned for their haggis, black pudding etc.  Charles Macleod in Stornoway in one of these and you can buy his products online at www.charlesmacleod.co.uk.  Hope this helps.

  2. Gleneagles Hotel

On a company "conference" we participated in a malt whisky tasting accompanied by a highland piper and haggis with the traditional trimmings. Memorable!

  3. Almost any small local butcher will sell good haggis - often they make their own.  I can recommend haggis from Gairloch in Wester Ross and from Dingwall in the East.  If you are a haggis novice try slicing it and grilling under a hot grill until crisp and browned.  Boiling is the traditional way but the texture can be off-putting.  Serve with mashed potatoes (tatties) and mashed swedes (neeps).  What a treat!

  4. Just north of the Scottish-English border the Scottishness of everything is very strong, same with the quality of haggis, and with deep-fried Mars bars, literature, traditions/customs of all sorts. Very Scottish indeed, even if no distilleries. Try Moffat, or Haddington over east, chippies.

  5. Stornoway haggis is by far and away the best and can be found in most of the top restaurants. Ramsays is a good one. Just eat at a decent standard of restaurant- most of them use Stornoway haggis. An awesome one is Cafe Gandolfi in Glasgow which has haggis and white or black pudding. The Three Sisters, Cafe Source and McPhabbs also use really good quality, very tasty haggis.

  6. the highlands because they cook them the same day they are caught

  7. chippie

  8. Any decent pub.

  9. Repeating what everybody has already said. But go to McSweens in Bruntsfield (next to Holy Corner) in Edinburgh. They have won awards and everything. While you are there visit Albanach (ithink thats how its spelt) on the Royal Mile for all the best Whiskies in Edinburgh.  I love my city....

  10. Macsween's in Edinburgh

  11. Everywhere - its different everywhere you go

  12. McSweens is normally accepted as the best.

  13. Buy a McQueens Haggis. Some supermarkets do them. A good butchers will make their own, Make sure it is wrapped in the stomach.

  14. One of the best places I've ever had haggis was a pub called the 'Craig Dhu'. They did this dish that was  chicken and haggis stuffed pancake in a creamy sauce.....mmm haggis. Now I'm craving it!!!!

Of course, haggis and neaps is a great dish, but this makes a nice change!

  15. wild haggis tastes better !!!

ask the gamekeeper at your hotel where the best place is  to shoot one . he will keep you right

  16. I prefer tinned Haggis (I think Grants do some).  Make sure the tin has been well chilled before you open it at both ends and push out the haggis.  Slice the tinned haggis up into thin slices.

Put these slices on as part of a pizza topping with lots of cheese.  Absolutely fantastic!

  17. Butcher in Castle Douglas Dumfriesshire makes his own.... DELICIOUS

  18. Anywhere.  As long as it's a McSween's haggis.

  19. anywhere in scotland particulary the highlands

  20. Not a restaurant

But try Cockburns award winning haggis from their shop in Dingwall in ross-shire

  21. If you MUST eat haggis, go someplace pretty to do so.  The Highlands is beautiful, and truth to tell, I have yet to find any place there that is not pretty.  Happy indigestion.

  22. My local butcher in Edin. won the national haggis prize but not a very  obvious place to visit!

McSweens is good and avaliable in loads of places all over scotland.

  23. If you are keen to try as soon as you cross the border, I reccommend either of the butchers in Jedburgh, who sell good local meat (for local people). Also, if you can't quite stomach the idea of sheeps bits, try McSween's Vegetarian Haggis, also available in most supermarkets (the Co-op does it)! I used to eat meat but never liked haggis...but this is great! For gourmet Vegetarian Haggis try Hendersen's Bistro just off George St in Edinburgh. Great portions and yummy fluffy champit tatties to go wi it x

  24. Stand up Ben Nevis and open up your airways. Turn 360 degress and sinff hard. The direction of the best and strongest smell is the one which will fill your heart. Follow ths smell, and just eat, eat and eat

  25. I would imagine everywhere in Scotland Sell Haggis.

  26. Dundee

  27. Well, I asked this question many years ago to my scottish sister in law, she recommended that I wait 'till it goes dark, make for the hills in Scotland, have a torch and a spade, when you spot a haggis shine the torch in it's face and it becomes transfixed, hit it on the head with the spade and take it home for cooking, 'tis better fresh like this than buying from butchers!!

  28. I believe, as do most afficianado's of this great delicacy one should go to the many haggis farms where they are bred. This way one knows one is getting an organically bred Haggis and not pumped full of e numbers and such
