  1. The airports.

  2. Australia - Goldcoast the 3 worlds (dreamworld, movieworld and seaworld)...... Singapore - Sentosa for leisure and Orchard Rd the downtown shopping paradise.

  3. Touring "Singapura" the Lion City

I just got back from Singapore; the trip was a junket courtesy of my current company.  Since I went with a bunch of first-timers, here are a few activities I recommended to them.  I thought I'd share it with those of you who might be planning a trip to the Lion City.

Precipitation can be unpredictable in Singapore.  That being said, newcomers are recommended to take advantage of the first clear night by heading off to the Night Safari, a wildlife park where you can observe most nocturnal animals from an open tram.

Sentosa Island is popular day-time destination among locals and tourists alike.  Nature lovers will surely enjoy a visit to the resort island's Underwater World, Butterfly Garden, and Insect Kingdom.  Make sure you take time to watch the Songs of the Sea, touted to be "the world’s only permanent show set in the sea and boasts of a spectacular pyrotechnics displays, a live cast and an open-air viewing gallery".

Singapore, for me, has always been a gastronomic experience.  (If I think about it, what Asian country isn't?)  Take time to sample Singapore's signature dishes: Chili Crab and Hainanese Chicken Rice.

There's no need to go to a fancy restaurant to experience good Hainanese Chicken Rice.  It seems that, Hainanese Chicken Rice is to Singapore what Adobo or Pancit is to the Philippines: it's a common household dish that no one can cook wrong.  I was quite happy w/ the HCR I tried at Wisma Atria's Food court.  As for Chili Crab, No Signboard came highly recommended -- and for good reason!

My personal discovery:  Coffee Pork Ribs and Crispy Cereal Crayfish from No Signboard at The Esplanade.  Delish!

Travel Tip:  Keep a pack of travel tissues in your bag.  Dry table napkins aren't always available.

Shoppers' Haven (and Heaven!)  Being a woman of ample curves (some in the right places, some not), shopping in Singapore used to be a hit or miss for me.  Not any more!  I was quite delighted to find larger sizes in this city of tall, lean, and fashionable women.  Apparently, with the increasing expatriate population, Singapore stores have started to carry sizes for both the full-figured and the petite.  The signature brand aficionado can shop happily in the popular European, American, and Asian retail stores that abound in this fashion melting-pot!

Shopping Tip:  The Great Singapore Sale 2008 will be on May 23 to July 20! Up to 70% off!  Need I say more?

Get your gadgets here!  Gadgetphiles should check out Sim Lim Plaza where prices of electronics and gadgets can be bargained down.  Gadgets and electronics seem to be 30% cheaper than local* prices.  When my travel group flew home, I counted 9 new digital cameras (2 were SLRs), over a dozen units of the iPod/Nano/Video/Shuffle/Phone variety, 3 laptops, and 2 LCD TVs.

    Shopping Tips:

It's a good idea to check local prices before leaving for Singapore.  This gives you a a good price point for bargaining.

Know exactly what you want.  Some retailers will try to sway you into buying a sub par product for a perceivably lower price.

When buying TVs,  make sure that you get one that has the right regional setting for your country.  Know if your country uses PAL, SE-CAM, or NT SC.  It would be unfortunate to have a 30% savings turn into a 100% write-off once you get home.

Be prepared to deal with importation tax upon reaching customs at home.  Unless you have alternative arrangements, the price of taxes should be added to the cost of your purchase.  Make sure that it still comes out cheaper.

Try to get a worldwide warranty that will be honored in your country of origin, just in case something malfunctions.

Ask for a tax refund slip from stores where your purchased at least S$100 worth of goods.  As a tourist, you can have the sales tax refunded to you at Changi airport.

On your flight home, check-in early and give yourself ample time to go around Changi Airport's Duty Free.  It's a great place to buy souvenirs (a.k.a. chocolates) for the folks back home.  Hey, you can even use  the few Singapore dollars you got from your tax refund!

Regrets, I've Had A Few.  With 3 days to attend company functions, go on arranged tours, meet with friends, see family, and shop, there were quite a few activities/places that I missed out on.

    These were:

Jurong Bird Park, a bird sanctuary and aviary.

Singapore Flyer, put simply, it's a huge ferris-wheel, which instead of two-seater pods, has glass-paned capsules that fit 28 people standing.  The only place where you can get a 360° view of Singapore.

Sentosa 4D Magic Cinema - SEA's first 4D cinema.  If you think 3D movies are great, wait until you try 4D!

I'm definitely making time for these on my next visit.
