I'll be going next summer for about 2 weeks or so. My base will be Athens because we have a friend with a condo there. What ancient ruins, beaches and other attractions are not to miss? Please link to your pictures if you have them, I like to see where I"ll be going...

  1. I am not that fond of Athens just because I have been there several times, but if you are going for the first time, I would recommend seeing the Parthenon and going to Corinth.  Also I would go to Thessaloniki which is nice city and go see the White Tower.  If you get a chance, go to one of the islands...Corfu, Santorini, or Rhodes.

  2. Being based in Athens will be a good starting point for visiting many interesting places.Acropolis and the Archaeological Museum,

Delphi and Olympia, are a few of them.

Daily tours take you to Delphi and Olympia and back but it can also be combined to do it on  a two day round trip.

Meteora is also worth visiting and it takes more than a day to do it.

Then a daily trip to any of the small islands in the Saronic gulf, Egina, Poros,Spetses,Hydra, is also a must.

Sounion and any beach on the way there is a trip worth taken, especially for the sunset.

Depending on your timing and the interest to see more than just the bare minimum you should not miss any of the above.

  3. I just came back from Greece and it was amazing. Go to Tolo, Greece, its right on the Meditterean Sea. Theres a lot of local people there so its not like a touristy place. Also go see Olympia:where the first olympics were held. I got the chance to run on the track and it was pretty cool. The Ampitheater was pretty cool and same with Apollo's Acropolis. The tomb of Agamemnon is kinda boring but its cool to see a tomb in the side of a mountain. I had a blast in Greece seeing these sites!!
