After a 3-day stay in Zurich, I'll be staying in Paris for 5 days. What are the best tourist destinations/activities? I'm open to suggestions even if it's outside of Paris. Also, can you recommend a hotel/inn/apartelle that's under USD 150/night?

  1. Forget France. Go to Belgium. It's right next door and the people are nicer.

  2. If you are looking for a trip outside Paris, head to Mont St. Michel.  It is amazing.

Another great day trip from Paris: The D-Day beaches (Omaha, Utah) in Normandy.  Stay the night in Caen and go to the World War II museum. Really nice.

Paris:  What not to see...I love it there...for something off the beaten path, go to the catacombs.  It is really creepy, very interesting, and just plain macabre!  Go to the Moulin Rouge, St. Sulpice, climb to the top of Notre Dame for the views,  what not to do...museums, food, you name it... and go have a drink at the Buddha Bar...cool place!

  3. There are plenty of things to do, that's for sure. There's always la Tour Eiffel, l'Arc de Triomphe le centre Pompidou, le Louvre and lots of wonderful shopping to be done, but if you want something a bit different, here's some ideas.

Go and visit the Catacombs. It sounds a bit macabre, and well, it is, but well worth a visit. Also, make a trip to 'Cimetière du Père-Lachaise'. It may be a cemetery, but it's beautiful and gothic, plus it's now home to Édith Piaf, Oscar Wilde and Jim Morrison, and the war graves are very moving.

I'm not religious at all, but I went to Saint Chapel, on L’Île de la Cité, which was an incredibly beautiful church. Also well worth a wander round is le jardin du Luxembourg. If you're going to Paris in the summer, you should definitely walk along the banks of the Seine when they've been transformed into a beach - Paris Plage. There's even a huge floating swimming pool on the river!

As for hotels, I've stayed in a few Novotels, which are fairly cheap, but very nice. A good one is at 61, Quai Grenelle, in the 15eme arrondisement. If you're after something a bit nicer, try a Hotel Mercure, maybe the 'Paris Cusset Opera'. Rooms cost from 129 Euros per night, which is a little over budget, but some other Mercures are cheaper.

I hope this helps, and have a really great time in Paris. It's my favourite place in the world.

  7. There are lots of great little places you can go to in Paris. The best way to see Paris is by exploring it on foot.

I especially like le Marais and Montmartre districts-- lots of pretty corners and bars.

Or you can take a picnic and go to the Bois de Boulogne.

For hotels, try the Formula 1 (part of the accor hotel chain) They are usually pretty cheap.

You can even check out this blog that I found - http://indian-in-paris.blogspot.com/

Not very informative but its funny and it gives you an idea of the Parisian life.
