I'm planning a big Europe trip and want to spend about 3 weeks in Italy and I need some advise on things to see. I love museums and art but I also really enjoy quiet beaches. I want to try to get away from the super touristy places occasionally. Also, I have heard that Naples is extremely dangerous and should be avoided at all costs. Any input would be awesome! Thanks!!!

  4. I suggest you to visit Tuscany.

It has much to offer: 4 cities declared as "world heritage sites" (Florence, Siena, Pisa, san Gimignano)  by UNESCO. The countryside too is listed by  UNESCO.

The quality of life there is really high.

I'm Italian, and I love Tuscany. Is the place where I would like to live.

If you rent a car and you choose carefully the location of your accommodation, you can easily visit the whole Tuscany. I suggest you to stay in the center of Tuscany: so you can easily and quickly visit all the most important cities.

When I go to Tuscany, I stay in "Il Romeo" apartments. They are a charme, lovely and cheap accommodation in a wonderful countryside. They are located in a key position to vistit everything in Tuscany.

  5. Why don't you try somewhere different and 100% authentic? Visit Sardinia for great beaches and if you visit the interior of the island you get a taste of how Italy was decades ago. It is also one of the safest places in Italy.  You can see some of the best beaches on my blog - http://www.my-italy-piedmont-marche-and-...

  6. I just moved back to the States after living in Naples for almost 4 years, and I can honestly say I didn't find Naples to be as dangerous as many people seem to think it is. As a matter of fact, I never had one problem the entire time I lived there! We were Military and decided to move off base just so we could experience the Italian culture more, and we never had any trouble out in town. Most of the people in Naples are so, so kind and welcoming. Yes, there are places that should be avoided in Naples, but I truly found that in any major city I traveled to in Italy, and any major city I travel to anywhere in the world!

OK, with that all said, Rome is obviously a wonderful place to see! The museums, the Colosseum, the Vatican....The list goes on! They also have some beautiful bed and breakfast on the outskirts of the city. Pisa is lovely, Florence is lovely......Tuscany is one of the most romantic cities I have ever seen! Sicily had a lot to offer, including Mt. Etna and some quiet beaches. And Naples has a lot....Of course Mt. Vesuvius, Pompeii and Herculaneum are all right there, and I have never seen anything as unique and interesting as Pompeii. There are also many art galleries and museums in the Naples area. The island of Capri is also close, and the Amalfi Coast is a drive unlike anything you have ever seen before!

Whatever you do and see in Italy will be something you remember for the rest of your life. The Italian people and culture are so beautiful, so you're sure to have a great time no matter where you go there! Have fun:)

  7. Sicily!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  8. When in Rome.....

    see the Leaning Tower.

  9. Venice is the best blace to go it is a city built on water.

  10. You must visit Salento! It's beautiful, the paradise and you can have a lot of wonderful beaches: there are Portoselvaggio ( http://www.almadrigale.it/immagini2/port... , http://farm1.static.flickr.com/110/30080... ), Torre dell'orso ( http://www.baronali.it/galleria/IMG_1700... , http://www.spiaggesalento.com/spiagge-sa... )  Gallipoli ( http://www.salento.it/public/foto_salent... ), Otranto ( http://digilander.libero.it/jharas/otran... ,   http://www.naturamediterraneo.com/Public... ), and so on...

Besides, you can go to Lecce ( http://www.ilcorallo1.com/foto_piazza_le... ,  http://w3.uniroma1.it/dibeni/studenti/im... ), where you can see baroque art and visit Churches and more.

And, during the summer, there are many events, shows, concerts as the "notte della taranta" and so much other.
