  1. Greetings from an Indian!!

Well you have the specific reasons to come India and it is the right choice that will cater all your needs.

Come straight to Delhi as it is the premium location to most of the tourist locations. Delhi is a serious shopping city and you can find almost everything there, but be cautious of the duplicates. And you can visit Agra - Jaipur - the northern himalayan ranges - kulu - Manali. Then head to either Mumbai or Kolkota and both these places are very good for shopping and specifically the Sarees and designer sarees are pretty cheap in Kolkota.

Then head straight to South India through the gateway, Chennai. Visit magnificent temples and grand architectures of Mamallapuram - Madurai, then head to Bangalore which is a cool tourist destination and visit Mysore and head to Goa, which is the Folrida of India. And lastly dont forget to visit the enchanting state, Kerala..the serene backwaters, wonderful greenery and you should visit the whole of Kerala and you can take your flight back from Trivandrum or Bangalore.

And regarding the purchase of books you can do that in almost all the main cities and the exclusive showrooms are Higginbothams and Landmark

It is just a gist and I can give you the full details if you mail me back..Cheers!

  2. many things - agra, delhi, mumbai, goa are just some of the places to visit.  jaipur, rajasthan etc are also nice

  3. Hmm do you want to see Disneyland and do some posh shopping or do you want to see India?

You want first want to align your expectations with reality: there is no theme or amusement park in India which is anywhere close to Disneyland. And what you see in Hindi movies exists just in these movies. The closest you could get to the glamour of Bollywood is a visit to South Mumbai. But that is not India.

India is likely just very different from anything you have seen or experienced before. It is certainly not a place where any of the usual sightseeing would let you discover the country. You find its beauty in the small things, not the big spots you were asking for. Don't waste your time being shuttled around Taj Mahal and other tourist spots, you would spoil all your time on very bad roads and you would see nothing that really matters. You would find decent book stores and plenty of ethnic shopping in any even provincial city.

Having said that, here a few places I can truly recommend:

    * Mumbai, to get your dose of Bollywood

    * Goa, for its Indian/Portugese blend

    * Kerala, for its fantastic backwaters and Ayurveda

    * Nepal, Pokhara, for its immense scenic beauty

    * Darjeeling, for its blend of tea, climate and time standing still

Avoid the roads for longer distances. Fly when you can, otherwise take the train for an authentic experience. Avoid the big cities - if you saw one, you've seen them all, and you'll be fed up with them anyway as they are all polluted, dirty and chaotic.

  4. In INDIA , lot of places r to b seen .At least it will take 2 months time to visit important places of dif states n places..such as

    Temples,Monuments  of northern/Southern  INDIA.

ie., from KASHMIR to Cape camarine.

  5. Besides one of the seven national wonder in the world, the Taj Mahal, you can visit the Ganges River  http://neatorama.cachefly.net/images/200...

  6. the taj mahal duh

  7. I don't know what you have seen in the bollywood movies .But,India is not like what the show in bollywood.

If you wanna visit India, visit to explore the rich heritage and culture.

Some must visit places are, Tajmahal,Khajuraho,Mumbai,Goa,Kerala(All... Orissa(Bhubaneswar,Konark) ,Rajasthan.

You won't get anything near to Disney land in any city ;but,In Mumbai , you have Essel World which is good. There are several other water parks and theam parks in most of the Indian cities which are not up to the western standards.

  8. fun parks no, if you see a fair. ride at your own peril. i saw one once all eroded and rusty, think insurance does not exist in india, hence at your own risk of life and limb....book stores? very expensive in india, went to a second hand book shop and they wanted half the price of the retail price. most of india do not read books like in the west, and that's not being nasty, only educated indians read books, never yet been to india and seen an indian reading a book. look around beach/hotel. nearly every tourist has a book to pass the time away.  for cheap and tawdry tatty stuff, you only have to go to goa,, most of outside of state of goa come there to sell their stuff, you will find it all in goa..

  9. everyone forgot Rajasthan ... beautiful monuments and you will find loads of beautiful things to buy :) .. cheap ofcourse

  10. i agree 100% with bozapp.

There are no theme parks like Disneyland in India, No amazing bookstores like Barnes and Noble, Bollywood is not as it seems, even bollywood movies are made at foreign locations now :)

Okay , so apart from the places mentioned by Bozapp, If you want to buy glamorous bollywood stuff like jewelery, dresses, sarees etc Mumbai is the place, you will get lots of variety, cheap too!
