Question:

What are the best rat carriers?

I feel I'm neglecting my rat during the day when I go out to see my friends etc. What would be the safest and most comfortable way for me to take my rat with me? Could someone link me to a rat sling, or something similar where the rat is secure but also free to stick her head out and socialise? Something from the UK is preferred.

  1. Silly idea.

Rats are fine in a cage at home.

Yes, you can get pouches- Pets At Home sell them- but it's a silly idea to take ANY pet everywhere with you.

They're fine in a cage, go and live your life! Handle them daily, give them fresh food and water and enrichment, then leave them be. You'll do more harm than good taking them out everywhere- they're more likely to get stressed and sick than staying safely at home.

Yeah, I work in Pets At Home- I've never had anyone ask about taking their rat out, but generally it is a bad idea.

Remember, as much as you love your pet, you are just humanizing and put human emotions on here.

  2. It's a rat, dude.  It'll be just fine without you.

  3. Easy on the language. This is a public site which means little kids do get on it. I agree with Law L, rats aren't like dogs they can't go absolutely everywhere. And I bet your baby would be even happier if she had a rat friend.

Rats get depressed when housed alone.
