What are the best remedies for cat hairballs?

I went to the vet and i saw the x-ray. My cat has approx 7 - 8 hairballs and I've tried almost everything the doctor's medicine. Spent 126 dollars for nothing. I tried giving him butter, high vitamin drops in his food, the Laxatone is c**p and doesn't work, very messy. I'm out of options. My cat refuses to vomit them out, it seems there are times when he is about to cough up one and then he totally stops, and i'm not sure if hes pooping anything out either, and i'm certainly not going to spend more money on the vet, unless surgery was the last option for my cat to live.

  1. I feed my year old cat..peanut butter..

    Placed on his front paw..

    Cats love it!

Also go to Pet Smart and buy...

    Sentry  Natural Defense Hairball Remedy..

That works for my cats..all the time..

It is chicken flavored for the finicky cat.

    Good luck...

  2. Petromalt Hairball Remedy

  3. Is it an outside cat? Grass and plants help ALOT with this problem. If outside isnt an option get it some wheatgrass from a petshop type establishment or plant dealer. Animals naturally know what is good for them and what is not. Specialty cat and dog stores will sell this stuff too, even seed mixes. However, you need some grown stuff pronto!

Olive oil is one potential remedy too.

oat, rye, barley and wheatgrass are very good.

Also, if it wont eat the wheatgrass mix, natural oil based gels will do the same thing and help the hairballs to pass naturally in the future. you feed teh gell to it in a one inch ribbon.

      Shouldnt be a problem!!

in the future, if you can, see a knoledgable natural-based vet if you have to see one. just by talking to them you can tell where they are coming from.

  4. when i let my cats out, i watch them and make sure they dont go too far. one of my cats loves to eat grass and she never vomits. but all my other cats do. its perfectly natural. if you cat isnt and outside type or cat, then go to the pet store and buy cat grass. im serious. my cat that eats grass...... ive never seen her cough up a hairball before

  5. Probably shaving your cat regularly would eliminate this problem or get a hairless cat.

A thorough brushing every day may help some otherwise accept the fact that cats have learned over the course of time the best way to deal with this issue is by regurgitating it.

Hey, its part of owning a cat. Sorry. If stomache blockage becomes a problem then the vet is the only way.

  6. Well, I use olive oil. I take a spoonful of olive oil and put it in my cat's food. It really works and you don't need any of that fancy medication stuff. My vet told me about it so it won't cause any health problems. Usually the hair get's stuck in your cat's throat, forcing them to cough it back up. But if you use olive oil, it will prevent that from happening. And olive oil is good for your cat's fur! :P

But they do have other remedies at

    Pet's Mart and such.
