Going to Chicago for Lollapalozza in early August and am looking for relatively inexpensive (or moderatly expensive depending on quality or creativity or fame) places to eat in the downtown area. Interesting ethnic restaurants are a plus as well as places known for being the "best" at anything. Thank you all very much for your time and help.

  1. I love Heaven on Seven.

111 North Wabash.  It is generally open for lunch, but I think only open for dinner at this site once a month.

The gumbo is amazing.  That and a Cheddar Jalapeno corn muffin and you are set for the day.

There are a few pizza places.  (Stand on a street corner, close your eyes and point in any direction and you will find pizza!)

  2. Italian Village is awesome and kind of off the beaten path with tourists. Gino's East is the best Chicago Pizza. Going to the top of the Hancock tower at night for drinks provides a beautiful view of the city.

  3. Grand Lux Cafe - OMG I love it!!!!! - Downtown

    Capital Grille - Downtown

    Ruth Chris Steakhouse - Downtown

Penny's Noodle Shop - Wicker Park neighborhood

Taqueria Moran (Mexican) - Wicker Park neighborhood

Al's #1 Beef - Downtown Ontario St. or Ohio St.

  4. Avec or Blackbird  615 W. Randolph
