  1. Just beginning, I would not be as concerned with the brand as with what performs best for your swing.  You might even consider buying a used set of clubs, which will give you a better performing set of clubs for less money.  Suggest going to a golf shop with the swing analyzer or hitting area and try some out in your given price range.  Ask them about used sets as well.

www.tradergolf.com is a site I used for new and used.

  2. Wal-mart brand.  If you can get good with those, then you're something special.

  3. if you have young gun around where you live, they're quite a good brand. They're not to expensive and fit your needs

  4. I bought a set of Dunlop John Daly clubs on sale at Canadian Tire for only $149. The set came with a complete set of irons including pitching and sand wedges. It also included a neat hybrid 3. Great stand up bag with backpack style carrying harness and rain cover. Also came with club head covers. I am really pleased with the clubs and feel they are more than adequate for my level of playing. Work on your swing first. You don't need to spend a ridiculous amount of money on your clubs yet, in my opinion...

  5. I would suggest that you go to your local golf shops or golf factories and try out a range of golf brands before you purchase any. The best thing to do would to look out for the demo day at golf ranges. I play off 2.6 and have the old Sling Shot Nikes and they seem to work really well.

    Have a good one...

  6. dunlop

  7. First of all, $400 will be plenty for a brand new set. If you do decide to go for brand new, Wilson and Dunlop both make good beginner's set. I personally recommend Wilson, because my first set (Wilson) is still usable, while my brother's (Dunlop) is already half broken. But, if there's a Costco Wholesale nearby, I would recommend go in there and get the "Nicklaus" set (designed by the Golf legend Jack Nicklaus). It includes everything from Driver to Hybrid, irons, putter and a nice looking stand bag. The clubs are very well made. And it only cost around $200.

However, if you prefer to choose name brands, such as TaylorMade, Titleist, Callaway, Mizuno...etc.  I would recommend a used set, not necessarily the beat-up ones, but just not brand new. This way, you can expect to beat them up as you get better and not worry about damaging a brand new set. And it cost around $200-$300. However, in this case, you'd have to buy the driver, putter and bag separately, because name brand clubs don't usually come in a complete set.

Couple of beginner used models I would recommend is Callaway X-16 (or X-18), Ping Eye 2, Nike Slingshot, and all the Mizuno MX series.

When you are shopping, pay attention on couple of characteristics of Beginners clubs: large club face (sometime oversize is ok too), more cavity-back, which offers great Forgiveness (meaning off-center shots will go straight too), more off-set angle between club face and the shaft (easier to hit).

And one last tip, since you are a young dude, don't get graphite shafts, they are for girls and seniors.

    Hope this helps, have fun!

  8. If you are trying to spend under $400, you will be severely limited to what clubs you can purchase.  And, the problem here is, when you buy an inexpensive set....you get what you pay for. Perhaps a better idea, find a a golf course or golf shop that takes trade ins. Many do as part of selling new clubs. And, usually you can find a rather good set of used irons, or metal woods that would serve your purpose for just starting out. Call around and ask, you might be surprised what you might buy for under $400. And, sometimes a name brand golf manufacturer makes up golf sets for beginners, and available at the pro shop.

  9. Z Series Hybrid Complete Set W/deluxe Stand Bag

    cost about $199.90

  10. Dunlop nd wait till the end of the golf season that way the sets will be dirt cheap
