  1. The category you want is All Mountain. Most major manufacturers these days make all-mountain skis because they're getting very popular. I ride Rossignol Zeniths and they're great. Atomic Metrons are also popular. I've seen good reviews for Fischer, Volkl and other brands as well. I think the difference between different companies is not as important as getting the right skis to match your own ability and the right price.

Check out manufacturers' websites, online ski reviews, competent salespeople.

  2. It really depends on how much money your willing to spend, for a lot of money, any of the newer skis made by Vokl are great, the Mantra's and the Buddha's are supposed to be killer.

But if you're not willing to go bankrupt over a pair skis, K2, Rossignol, Atomic, and Salomon all make some great on/off piste skis for advanced skiers. I ride a pair of Rossignols that can do anything on my local mountain, got them for $150 + shipping. It really all depends on your budget though.

  3. What I do is buy different pairs of skis for different conditions. I have skis for racing, park skis, powder skis, and general all-mountain skis. If you ski 200 days a year like I do, its a good thing to do. However, it does get super-expensive and I would not reccomend that you do that. There are two skis that I think you should look at for a one-ski quiver:

    -Salomon X-Wing Tornado

    -Atomic Nomad

These are both excellent skis; check them out:

    Hope this helps.

  4. Rossignol

    K2's

    Go to Willys

  5. There are so many different skis out there that this is a hard decision. Since we have no idea what kind of skier you are or weight or height it would be hard to say. The best way to find the right ski for you would be go to a demo day at a local mountain and try out some skis and pick your favorite.

Everybody is going to recommend their favorite brand or favorite ski to you but everyone is different so trying skis or talking with someone who knows alot about the different brands can help you decide.
