Only asking taekwondo athletes who have done well in competition tkd.. I am a black belt myself, however recently have imersed myself in competition sparring only, my group of guys only practices full contact competition sparring, we are all black belts however curious about others training techniques (ones that have been tried and tested to improve speed mainly, but also coordination..)

Also, i got my black belt at 15 with the new zealand taekwondo union, then left the club i was with at 19.. had a two yr break then started back doing only competition practice two yrs ago at the age of 22.. 3 yr break total.. cant remember any patterns etc.. wanna do my 2nd dan at some stage and while im fit and can execute all moves well and fight excellently, what happens with training for my second dan, no danger of losing black belt or anything because haven't graded since i was 15 right?? Anyone know? I need to re-learn all patterns.

  1. Find a punching bag and practice your kicks over and over until you can make it fly.

For coordination you have to find and try to hit a moving target.

  2. You are a black belt so you should know the answers to your 1st question.  All the stuff you use to do still applies. The more you kick the better you will become. Kick, kick, kick, kick and more kicks. Hundreds if not thousands of kicks per day.

My top students do a minimum of 1000 kicks per day. Lots of knee high jumps, lunges, froggies, and squats.

Kicking a bag and or focus pad is one thing but kicking air is the best and hardest thing to do.  Kicking air requires true control as there is nothing to bounce off of or stop the leg other than your muscles in the leg, back and hips.

As far as you losing your belt. No this can not happen unless your schools was not a part of WTF (Kukkiwon) or ITF (3 factions - 2 of which are in Australia).

Learn your forms (patterns or poomse) as they also will help with speed, coordination and accuracy. They are there for a reason. Without the form as a part of your training you are unbalanced and can not be the best fighter you can be.

  3. the duck walk( strengthens your hips) all kicks are faster is the power is from the hips, and just practice.

  4. i assume that you know the right techniques, so kick kick kick and punch punch punch.. every day and every night.

old saying from a jungle far away: practise makes perfect

  5. well try to train under 100 time gravity then earths normal gravity.that will not only make u strong and speedy but also will make u a super syan oopps super earth weakling.

  6. As long as your former club was official, then you are in no danger of losing your rank.

You do need to learn all the poomse again before you test for 2nd dan, as you don't know which ones the masters may ask you to do until you are testing.

Your training should include alot of kicking paddle training using reaction.

For example, after warm up, the person holding the paddle will start off easy, holding the target open for you to react and strike with an appropriate technique.  The holder will vary left side and right side, and different heights.  The holder will make things progressively more difficult and will only hold the target in place for 2 seconds.

Starting out, they may hold it in place for 5-8 seconds.
