I mean to stay safe from bear or wolf attacks.

Your chances of even being approached is pretty small except where the bears or wolves have been habituated to humans like major popular "parks".

I camp for days on end twice a month in totally wild country with predators all around. I take nothing more than the regular belt knife I always take. Never once have I had any problem.

Don't leave any trash/rubbish in your camp from preparing food.

Don't cook meals that give off an strong aroma in the camp area that you are going to sleep in. Don't wash your dirty dishes in your camp area. Don't leave food out.
