What are the best things to visit in Florence. i would like to see things like lakes and landscape or things you wouldn't find in Rome. What is it like in Florence? Is it a good contrast to Rome? I'm only there for a day. Is it worth making the long trip there from Rome? I intend to go to the gardens and the leaning tower of pisa.

  1. Well I suppose this doesn't exactly help as I haven't been to Rome, but I recently went to Florence and I loved it. It helps if you like art , as some of the churches and galleries are just amazing there. The nightlife is really good too, and it's so full of energy. I suggest you check out the galleries, churches and museums, and the shops are good there too. But I don't know much about the langscape sorry "/. have fun !

  2. try  samantha brown. easier to google to get here.  but it's on  travel.dicovery.com.

We often watch it. not long ago she went too florence.

  3. Pisa is not that close to Florence.  Don't expect this to be all done in one day.  I know it sounds tacky and touristy but take the Fiorenze red double decker bus.  It will take you to all the major spots,  Accademia, Duomo, Little David (a sight not to be missed), and to a little town called Feosole (I think I spelled it right).  It's great, you jump on and off.  Unless you are determined to see the tower I have heard that Pisa is over rated.  If you are a real architecture junkie you might like it, but my friend did one of the day trips and said that it was really boring.  They weren't allowed to go inside and the town had nothing going on.  We are in our early to mid 30's and had only 10 days to see Venice, Florence and Rome so we wanted to spend each moment exploring and seeing everything.  Keep in mind that the Duomo is fabulous, but a daunting task.  Do this first because it's exhausting, but worth it.

  4. Slower pace than Rome, but the gardens didn't seen to be a high point.  I had fun just walking around viewing all of the different churches.  You just seem to run into them everywhere and some of the nicest aren't the ones you typically hear about.  Street fairs seem to be everywhere.

If you plan to go to Accademia or Uffizi book tickets ahead of time at http://www.florence-museum.com/booking.p...

Otherwise, you will stand in line for hours, and I am truly not exaggerating.

The leaning tower of Pisa is another couple of hours from Florence.  If you go there, you won't have much time in Florence at all.  We stayed in Florence 3 days and could go back and see it again because we barely fit eveything in.

If you are wanting an interesting day trip from Rome that won't rush you to death, I would suggest going either south to Naples and Pompeii or go north to Sienna.

  5. Well, Rome will take more than 1 day to try and see everything. Here is a link from wikipedia. Just remember no cameras inside the accademia, where the statue of David is.

  6. If you only have a day in Florence, I would be removing the leaning tower of Pisa from my agenda. It takes too long to get there and is a bit of a let-down when you do. I'd be staying in Florence, and would see the following:

    1. The Duomo and the Piazza della Signoria

    2. The Uffizzi - if only for the Botticelli room. But PREBOOK your tickets for the earliest entry time

    3. Spend a couple of hours in the market near San Lorenzo

    4. Have a Florentine steak (bistecca)

    5. The Ponte Vecchio and the Arno

See if you can get another day there and visit San Gimignano ('the Manhattan of the Renaissance') and Siena, one of the most beautiful places in Tuscany.
