  1. Get lost, just keep walking and you'll find things no tour will ever show you.

  2. ride in the gondolas(boats).  they are very refreshing because Venice is the hottest place i've ever been

  3. Go on 1 of them boats.. ! My parents are going soon!

  4. Take an excursion to the Dolomites.  The tour guide picked us up in Venice and drove us in an SUV to Cortona a small northern town in the mountains, it was breathtaking.  If I could do my trip again I would have spent 2 days in Venice and a week in the Dolomites.

    www.viator.com

This is a good website with a lot of Italian tours, they were very professional and spoke very good english.

  5. relax and enjoy your time there, you may need extra spending money for food and drink tho!

  6. The 1st things to do are:

Visit Saint Marc's square, visit the Basilica and go to the Dodges Palace. You may want to wait in line to go up the bell tower (on a clear day) but it's best to go across to San Giorgio and go up that bell tower (almost no line and the view is just as good).

2ndly - Have you camera and sketch book with you at all times... Go to the Rialto Food Market - best in the mornings before 9am. Go to the Jewish Ghetto and visit the museum there.

3rdly - Visit Cà Pesaro - beautifully restored building with a grand slam collection of art collected through out the 100 years of the Biennale (the world famous art show held in Venice every two years).

Go to the "Accademia" Art Gallery.

Try to get lost.,.. it's actually quite fun.

Go to the Giudecca... go on over to the Hilton over there and go up to the bar on the roof for a fantastic view and order a spritz.

  7. Avoid getting lost, we found.

  8. Venezia e' una citta' magica che difficilmente si puo' descrivere. Ti aspetto per augurarti un caloroso benvenuto.

  9. just walk around, enjoy the narrow / cannel streets / bridges and all the medieval buildings, get yourself lost, then follow the signs at the conners of the intersections and eventually you will be back to the main landmarks. It's fun!

  10. There are all of a million things to do in Venice. I wen there this sumer and absolutly LOVED IT. i am already planning a trip back. My favorite things to do were taking a Gondola ride through the city, Visting the glass blowing shops and seeing the demonstration of how they make those beautiful pieces of work, the lace factory demonstrations are intresting. Be sure to visit the Doges Palace, It is incredible, all the art work all over. Another, simple a cheap thing that I loved was feeding the Pigeons in Piazza San Marco(St. Marks Square). There are about four people with little carts that sell bags of pigeon food for one euro each. It is great fun. Wander the streets and find some of those incredible shops, they are all great. One last suggestion is make sure to eat some gelato, it is Italian ice cream, and it is amazing. Whatever you decide to do, remember to relax and have fun with it. Enjoy your trip, savor the memories and be safe.

  11. Walk trouth the streets and visit museums and arts.

  12. Just enjoy its beauty.

  13. You'll probably do like everybody else - walk and get lost! - which is very pleasurable unless you are worried about not knowing where you are.

Otherwise trips on the water buses, if you are into classical music check out a concert. there might be special events on the days you are there.

If you can spend £100 on a gondolier...

You can eat and drink inexpensively in Venice, but to do that you have to stay away from the tourist areas.

There's the famous sites and buildings and you really should have a look. St Marks Square etc.

  14. There are so many great things to do in Venice.  The gondolas are always there and a bit overrated.  They are also very expensive and will cost around 100 euro.  If you are going with a group though you can all ride and split the cost which makes it much more reasonable.

Venice is best seen by foot.  Just walk about the city and get yourself lost.  Before you know it, you will come upon a famous landmark and know right where you are.  There are also signs on buildings all over to direct you where to go although they can be a little confusing.

It is also one of the best places for souvenirs.  The best prices can be found farthest from St. Mark's.

One thing I would definitely recommend is taking a water taxi to the island of Murano and visiting the glass blowing shops.  You can watch men at work blowing glass and the prices there seemed reasonable depending on the shop.  It is also much less touristy there and very peaceful!

Overall there is no way you can't have fun- Venice is wonderful!!

  15. Just got back, middle of August.  We stayed on the last island-community there.  It was nice and laid-back.  Rent bikes and enjoy the area you are in, take the boat "bus" to the all of the different areas you have time for.  Italy's food is less than what American-Italian is, so you pay a lot and need more flavoring than they give - just expect that and don't be disappointed.  Also, hit the beaches - very nice, lot of shells.  If we ever go back I sure love Venice more than Rome.
