I just applied online for a position I really want - a regional sales position. I have excellent experience that demonstrates that I am very qualified for the position.

Since it was an online applications that only asked for a resume and a few details about me should I do something more to make sure I don't get lost in the shuffle?

Is it good to try to send a cover letter to someone specific or to place a call to someone at corporate in Dallas?

The job is located in a specific city. Should I call or stop by to try to see someone or try to get a name of someone responsible for making the selection for the position at the airport/SWA ticket counter in that city?

Or should I just keep my fingers and toes crossed and hope for the best?

  1. If you applied online, the best thing you can do is keep your account active. Sign in at least once a week, check for any additional job postings, make any necessary changes. The recruiters are able to see who is active, and who signed up once and hasn't since and has become inactive.

The recruiters who do the hiring are not necessarily located in the city where the job is, so going to the airport probably wouldn't do you any good. Just keep checking in and keep your online account active, that's all they need to know you are still interested. Also keep in mind that there could be hundreds of people applying for the same job. Plus initial background checks can take weeks. If you get called for an interview, just be yourself. Good luck!
