  1. Ice skate at Rockafeller Center;

    Get Tickets for the Christmas Spectacular at Radio City Music Hall

    Christmas shopping at Macy's/any of the big toy stores/etc.

    Buy a bag of fresh hot roasted nuts from a street vendor

  2. Museums and plays....Call an ASTA travel agent to make your plans and you can get a long list of fun and safe things to do. There all kinds of cheap and fun things to do.

  3. Manhattan gets all decked out for the Holidays.  There is the famous tree at Rockefeller center, Fifth Ave at 51st st.  many stores, notably Sach's across the street from there, Bloomingdale at 59th and Lexington Ave and Lord and Taylor at 39th and Fifth and Macy's at 34th and Seventh  are known for their elaborate window displays.

    If you like Ice skating, it's available at Rockefeller Center by the tree, but be warned, hundreds of people will watch you.  More private, and not that far away is Wollman Rink in Central Park.  (Yes, it is safe to go there,)

    The show at Radio City is an institution, but it is kind of hokey.  I would avoid the Times Square on New Year's thing, it is a madhouse and you can't get close enough to see anything anyway.

  4. Rockettes at radio city, rockefeller christmas tree, time square on new years eve
