What are the best things to see in New York City on a budget?

My husband and I are going to New York for a few days... I've never been and I want to see the essentials. (statue of liberty, empire state building, ground zero) How much does that stuff cost? Also, what other things do you recommend?

well i thik but i never been to there befor but i got a little to say bout it and look the best thing is to see new thingd thats what i think

empire state building is only like 10

ground zero has alot of construction around it like all the time so i don't know if it even cost any money....i think its free tho..

idk how much the statue of liberty is

but other places you should see are...

-central park

-fifth ave for the best shopping ever

-soho district has great shops

-and the restaurants that i recommend are Petite Abeille(a cafe with the best belgium waffles!!)...Sardis...Aleo's....and i can't remember the name (haven't been there in like four months but its on 46th st. and in between 7th and 8th ave.....srry i can't remember the name but its delicious! : )
