  1. god i dont envy you at all........

we first flew long haul when our baby was 5 months old, and he behaved perfectly.

so we took it as okay to fly with with at 13 months on a 3 hour flight.

we thought we had timed the flights to perfection, take off at bedtime with a bottle of milk and then sleep.NOT SO> he kicked off like you wouldnt believ and it was three hours from h**l.

the return journey was no better.

but back to the question - take his favourite foods, finger food that are eay to eat and not too messy, take plenty for him to drink, powder formula milk if he still drinks that, and toys that arent so precious. it would be awful if he lost his favourite irreplacable cuddly.

at 14 months i am assuming he will be wanting to explore (as our son was) and will try to get under the seats, and not take too kindly to having to sit on your lap during take off. a good pop up book is handy and a repertoire of nursery songs or lullabys with actions is always handy.

Hope i havnt worried you and im sure you will have an angel compared to my little demon xx

  2. when my daughter was that age anf flying for the 1st time, i took her favourite small toys and a colouring book with a few felt tips, if the flight is only a couple of hours, keeping him amused should not be to difficult, walk with him down the aisle once or twice. I also take lollipops for her during landing and take off, helps with her ears

There are lots of ideas you can pull from here.. I know I used her bags to entertain a 3yo and a baby on a 11 hour flight and it helped a lot!

Also suggest:  magnadoodle, a toy train or two, and if you can find one at a local store this http://www.zipbin.com/products/zipbin_di... is one of my fav take along toys for my 18 mo because of the playmat and dinosaurs which he is into now that he saw them at the children's museum.  HTH's  and good luck!

  4. A couple of favourites, and if you can get some cheap new ones that will help when he's bored. Since he'll be on your lap you might consider something with smaller pieces than would normally be advisable for a child this age - how about some plastic animals or figures, or little toy cars? But be sure to take them away afterwards if they might be a choking hazard.

  5. Play pick a boo with him?bring some soft toys for him to play?Maybe bring some baby biscuits for him.

  6. It actually depends on how long you are going to travel, and if you have to change planes and what not. I recommend that you take some soft toys and books with you, they aren’t heavy, and customs have no problems with them and are very safe. Here are the ones that I buy for my kids when we travel.

  7. I would take:

Biscuits and a sippy cup of water or diluted juice.

    Maybe some dried fruit snacks.

    I would Take:

Some books with flaps and things that pop out. SOme new and some of his favourites.

    SOme little cars

    Stickers

    textas and a scrap book.

  8. I took my daughter on holiday earlier in the year, and purely by fluke I managed to get it just right. My advise - just take as many different things as you possibly can!

4 1/2 hours will fly by at home whilst a child is free to play with what they want and do what they want, but when they have to sit in a seat and not really move they will get rapidly bored with everything!

I took some colouring / sticker books and a small pack of pencils, a little box of lego, playmobile stuff, her favourite teddy, lots of books to read, lots of little snacks and carton drinks etc. - she just played with one thing after another and soon got bored, our flight was only 3 hours though so not bad, I'd just take more for a longer flight.
