What are the best ways to distribute free software online?

Question

I have a program that helps people search auction items better and monitor and win auction bids easier. I want to give this away free so that people can try it and give me feedback.

Any good ideas?

Post it to places like http://www.cnet.com. Contact webmasters that run sites that give information about online auction sites and ask them if they'd like to offer their visitors your software for free.

It may help to create a page that offers the software for a price so that you can refer those you offer it to your site and show them what a great deal your offer is.

You can also see if http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/ will post your software as a giveaway as well.
