  2. Don't have children.

  3. If you can, put up and use a clothes line to dry your clothes. Wash laundry in cold water. If you have to use your dryer, make sure it is running properly and the vents are not blocked.

if going away for any length of time, consider turning your hot water tank off.

Look into an inline  or 'on demand' water heater.

    do dishes by hand.

Get in the habit of turning items off, or better still unplug them - except things like your fridge of course. Many devices (TV, Cptrs, monitors...) still draw power even when turned off.

Compact flourescents (sp?) and even then, do you need the whole room lit up or just a reading lamp by your chair?

Check with your electrical company about suggestions or if they do energy audits. They should also be able to tell you of any company, federal or provincial incentive programs to update older inefficient appliences, heating systems etc.

  4. switch off all electrical appliances when not in use, don't just put on stand-by as this wastes a h**l of a lot of energy, only boil the amount of water you need in a kettle as boiling a full kettle wastes more energy, make sure your loft/attic is well insulated, and that only the floor of the loft is insulated NOT the roof, also make sure the loft hatch is insulated, this will reduce your heating bill,  have a shower not a bath, showers use less water and only heat the water you use, plus they are more hygienic.

  5. Install solar power, then you wont have bill!! :)

  6. Turn off things that arent being used

unplug anything, electricity is still being extracted when ur cell is still plugged into the wall

    change your light bulbs

sign up for green energy on your next bill

  7. Your fridge is easily the worst culprit, unless it is a very modern unit (like a year or two old) it is likely a huge user of electricity. That's the first place to look. Electric clothes dryers and electric space heaters can also suck a huge amount of juice. Hot plates and electric stoves are also potential problems, if you do have to use them, make sure you cook in covered pots that make good solid contact with the burner plate.

There's a zillion web sites, and while it is good to turn of lights and switch to compact fluorescents...it's the big ticket items, especially the fridge, that suck the most juice. I you have electric house heating, then you need to be really efficient with weatherstripping, etc as well.

  8. 1)general rule if your not in the room lights out

2)if you are in the room how many lights do you really need on only have on the lights you need

3)CFL's are good but remember they contain mercury if they make/find non mercury ones even better

4)allow and make use of natural sun light as much as possible

5)when preparing meals cook as much as possible for that meal at once don't have the oven on for hours because everyone comes home at a different time set a meal time and that's when you eat

6)if you have an electric water heater wash your laundry with cold water detergents, wash dishes in the sink avoid the dishwasher but if you need to make sure the dishwasher is full and on the energy saver mode

7)make a drying line for laundry items either in the furnace room in winter and outside for summer

  9. Well.. one extreme is to buy greener energy like Solar Panels and Wind Turbines(small ones)

another way is just to use less energy.

Use energy effient light bulbs they can be ugly.. but they save energy and last longer.

Don't use a tumble dryer? Air dry your clothes.. or in winter use tumble dryer for one load of washing and hang another load of washer near it so it can dry both at once.

If your not using appliciences like tv etc turn them off by the plug instead of standby.

If your not using your computer for a while put it into standby this then uses less energy. But you can resume your work just by pressing the on button (on standby do not turn off by plug)

Use as much natural light as possible.. only turn lights on when needed.

    Take short showers?

Turn your heating down a few degrees

If you  get cold instead of turning heating up, put more layers on.

When opening your fridge and freezer quickly get what you need and then shut the doors so they do not lose much cold.

Ermm.. there are lots of things to cut down on..

  11. One of the best things you can do,if you have an electric hot water heater, is open the little panel on it and turn the temp down.Turn off any lights you don't need.I don't get any bulbs above a 60watt either.

  12. Use a laptop computer- they use 60% less power than a desktop.   Use the librarys computer and save even more energy.   Turn the electric water heater on for an hour or two before going to bed, then turn it off.   It should stay warm all the next day if the tank is well insulated.   Turn your heat down or off when leaving the house for long periods of time.   It takes less energy to rewarm an area than it does to keep an area warm constantly.

  13. convert all of your lighting to compact florescent bulbs. They cost more up front. They use at least 2/3 less energy and last seven time longer. There are also electronic items that use power even when they are off. Like TVs, cable boxes, DVD/VCR. Plug them into a power strip with an on/off switch and turn the switch off when you are not using them. If you have older appliances consider replacing them with newer energy efficient ones. If you have a washer and dryer, make sure you put in full loads. Check out the Energy Star website to find out what the electronic items you have are costing you or buy a Kill a Watt or Watts Up meter to plug in your stuff to see how much its costing you.

  14. Use less of it!

  15. i would recomend compacted flouresent lights but their is a deadly chemical in them so dont bust em
