What are the best wilderness areas to visit in British Columbia?

I am going to BC later this year and was wondering what you consider to be the best places to see forests, wildlife, mountains, etc. I am particularly interested in the more remote and least tourist-orientated areas, and especially areas in which one finds wildlife.

(Please excuse my ignorance on this subject!)

Hard to specify. Don't worry about seeing mountains, they're everywhere. You can't miss them. Wildlife is everywhere too, but you really don't see it all that much as a rule. Best bet might be the Kootenay/Banff/Jasper park areas, though. I had elk walking through my campsite, there were herds of elk beside the road, and mountain goats are usually seen. There are forests all over the place too, but the most impressive are the really big trees on the coast. Cathedral Grove on Vancouver Island has the highway running right through it, and the trees are BIG. Carmanah area has accessible west coast forest. Actually, Vancouver Island probably has much of what you want. There are some big parks, lots of unspoiled areas. Check out the Lady Rose website, it's a boat trip, very good value.  If you are a hiker, there's Cape Scott which is the edge of the world practically. The Queen Charlottes are renowned for wilderness experiences though unfortunately I haven't been there yet. In BC, you really only find very touristy stuff in the big cities and possibly in some ski areas. Most of the rest of the province is very low-key. I don't think you'll be disappointed.
