What are the black bubbles on my candle wicks?

Some candles that I burn have black bubble things that appear at the top of the wick.

  1. This is called “mushrooming” and is fairly normal. Some wick types do it more than others, especially wire core wicks. Simply trim it off when the candle is cool.
