I'm just curious what the military's numbers are for high blood pressure. Is it 140/90 as I've heard? No Military recruiter is available until Monday in my area, but I was just curious.

  1. Yes. It's 140/90. If either of those two numbers is exceeded every time from three readings taken ten minutes apart you are disqualified. The source below is the medical standard.

  2. The preceding answer is not altogether accurate.  My blood pressure hovered around 150 over 90.  They took readings for three consecutive days, three times a day.  The average still was above 140/90.  They examined my eyeballs and everything else that might indicate hypertension or the inevitable onset of hypertension.  What they found that was, for me, my body type, that was what my blood pressure was supposed to be.  That was when I was 18.  They did the same thing when I was selected for Officer Candidate's School, at the age of 22.  They said it was normal for me.  However, they entered into my medical record an official waiver of blood pressure blessed off by BuMed of the Navy. True story.  I am 56 today and my blood pressure is 137/70 without being on any medication my whole life.  I spent 20 glorious years in the Marine Corps.  Everybody ain't the same, it is just a benchmark.
