  1. The cages you are talking about are called starting gates.

  2. in England they are called starting stalls.

  3. Starting Gates!

  4. In the USA they are called starting gates.  They are made with a solenoid that opens all the doors at once, insuring an even start for all the horses.

The two major manufacturers of starting gates in the USA are Puett and True Center.  You can find some photos and more information about gates at the company's websites.

  5. I think you are talking about the paddock, and the places horses stay in are called STALLS, NOT CAGES. Cages are for other animals, like zoo animals, for example, not racehorses. The same name is given to the horses' living quarters in the barn- it's a stall, not a cage.

  6. starting gate padded stalls.

  7. I'm not sure if you mean in the barn or in the starting gate, but in either case they would be called stalls, not cages.

  8. Starting stalls/gates

  9. starting stalls or starting gates..

  10. The "cages" are called the gates or some like to call them starting gates.

These are used so all the horses are given an equal start.

  11. Before the race they're held in a box stall, then they're brought to the paddock.  After the jockeys mount up, the horses are lead to the starting gate.

  12. They are kept in stalls and then brought to the paddock I believe.
