What are the car seat laws in California?

Question

I have a six year old that is exactly 60 lbs. A few years ago, the law was that once your child reaches 6, or 60 lbs., that he no longer needs to be in a booster seat. I heard a rumor though that they bumped it up to 8 yrs old and 80 lbs. Is this true? How do I find out?
