We should try to contribute to end poverty. I was browsing through the internet when I came across this community on orkut http://www.orkut.co.in/Community.aspx?cm... which is about the UN's campaign to end poverty by 2015. This is a great way through which we as individuals can contribute.

  2. I will assume you are talking about national poverty (rich nations as opposed to poor nations). A lot of it has to do with what kind of incentives are given to those people.

First and foremost, a nation needs extensive property rights. These are the laws that will protect you from getting everything/anything you own (your car, land, business, etc) taken from you by other people or the government. This gives people the incentive to try and attain these things.

The rest is a jumbled mix depending on things like the culture and work ethic of the people, national leadership, corruption, and more.

The richest nations in the world are capitalist nations, with extensive property rights, secure and incorrupt government, and a culture of entrepeneurship.
