I am 20 years old, going to be 21 next year, never had a girlfriend, still a virgin, I don't have a lot of friends of either s*x, I don't fit in with the party scene, I have not been to one party at all this year, I am never invited, only one or 2 people call me, but they have social lives similiar to mine, except I have a car and they don't, they don't have a lot of money. I figure this is pretty normal for people with Asperger Syndrome, especially males. Male aspies have it a lot harder than Female aspies because us Males always have to initiate dating, relationships, s*x, hook-ups, one night stands, etc. We males always or most of the time have to be the ones to approach the oppossite s*x, all females have to do is wait. I really hate Asperger Syndrome because I even struggle to make friends of my own s*x, like whenever I take the initiative to make friends with someone, it backfires. Like after I have talked to a classmate for quite a bit and he seems cool, I ask him for his phone number, but whenever I call him to hang out, he never answers or returns my calls, except the only time he will answer is when I call him for the very first time, I assume he answers because he doesn't know the number of the person who is calling him, which is me. This has happend countless times with people of my own s*x who I have tried to become friends with. Seriously, did I inherit Asperger Syndrome from someone in my family? most of the time does it come from the immediate family like mom or dad? or can it come from a family member who is dead like my great-grandfather or great-great-grandfather. grandmother, etc. What are the causes of Asperger Syndrome? can it be the age of the parents? my parents had me at a later than average age, when I was born, my dad was 41, and my mom was 39, 6 months away from being 40.

  1. Don't be so negative towards Asperger's.

It's actually the best thing that has happened to me. I don't have many friends, but I don't need them. My few friends are good people, and they share some of my interests. I go against society rules, I know I can. I don't need society's acceptance of my thinking, or my personality. I'm very good at music. I hate P.E. class. I have made a few boycotts to it. And I am not sorry for it.

The only bad thing that I have from Asperger's is that I have no empathy. I apologize to people before I'm cruel to them.

Asperger's is genetic. No one in my family has it though. I'm wondering if I'm adopted.

  2. i would think that finding out what caused it isnt going to help you much now

and that what you woudl be better focusing on is accepting you have it, and trying to make the adjustments to your life and your mind on the issue

not going over and over why why why, could it be my parents fault

that is only going to build up frustration and resentment, towards your parents and yourself, for having aspergers

i have seen that many times in aspergers,  self hating

but i assure you confused, it never helps, and only makes your life worse

i think what you shoudl be looking towards doing is  just accept you have it and go about changing things, for yourself, take control of your life and stop letting aspergers be the control

i really feel saddened by how much you seem to internally hate yourself and question yourself and cant accept that you have to move on from how you feel now and live some kind of life

my boyf, as you know, has it, and he feels not amazing about it, but he accepts it, he accepts he has it

and the cause is irrelevant to him, why?

because it wont help him now

that can only help future aspergers, future babies

you say yourself, you hate it a lot

well thats your problem confused, that really is

and no amount of answers here are ever going to hep you deal with that

only you can do that, and until you do, you will never be able to feel any kind of happiness

self hate and feeling sorry for yourself will never bring you happiness

trying to live, and change how you feel, about yourself, and your aspergers will

i truly hope you can one day come to the realisation that if you begin to change how you feel about your having aspergers and yourself that you will then notice a change in your life, i truly do

  3. People on the autism spectrum are as deverse and different as those not on the autism spectrum, we are all unique individuals.

I like you do feel it runs in families, does in mine and many others I know.  After doing some of my own research lately, I have read some ridiculous reasons for autism, like caused by toxic substances, over-vaccination and the list goes on.. I like to think we are evolution... all species have to grow, adapt, and change to survive! Most autistic people I know seem to have quite complex minds, the thing is no one really knows the answers, just like the universe.

However while researchers have yet to understand what causes AS, there is likely a genetic component. Recent research results suggest current hormone abnormalities in women with AS and their mothers. Direct investigations of serum testosterone levels and genetic susceptibility to high testosterone production or sensitivity in women with AS would illuminate the origin of these conditions, research on going, view current research: http://www.autismresearchcentre.com/arc/...

  4. It is something your born with

  5. Asperger is a genetic disease. Your born with it but usually not diagnosed until around 10-12 years old.

  6. It's genetic. The free podcasts at www.mic.mypodcast.com will fill you in on details. 15% of the autistic genome has already been mapped in the Autistic genome Project. The scientists doing the mapping say that the genes are present from conception, NOT vaccination, and that in no way does vaccination cause autism as some people say.

  7. Excellent question.  Asperger's and any of the the diseases on the Autism spectrum are extremely confounding; we simply don't have a good sense of causal mechanisms.  There are so many children who are diagnosed with PDDs/Autism and it's an area that we just don't have a good grasp on just how much, if any, is environmentally influenced vs. how much has an underlying genetic substrate.

It's a highly controversial (very heated) issue for parents, patients and for the medical community as it's in everyone interest to determine which, if any, environmental determinants can increase the risk of the disease and reduce expo sue as much as reasonable achievable.

There is a huge push on the part of the paeditric community to attempt to diagnose illness on the Autism spectrum at an earlier age, but even this become controversial as there's no "hard" way to make the diagnosis, especially in a young child.  In short, more research is needed which will take more money and only then will the medical community be in a position answer this with any degree of rigour or consensus.

At this point it's a hot-button issue that you'll find tremendous disagreement on even between highly-regarded experts in the field.
