I Have a fear of thinking that i hit someone like i was in a hit and run accident but i don't know it....i always think like "Did i hit someone?" when i look back it was just a bump in the road, i would get to the point that i would go drive back and investigate and it shows that i did NOT hit anybody, but still the thought is still pondering and its effecting my life. I know some of you say go see a shrink, wut if they can't help huh? is their anything you can tell me that can help i would really appreciate like facts about hit and run accidents plzzzzzz......it has been effecting me for like 1 year ever since i was backing out of 7 eleven and i thought i hit someone but i didn't i even checked, and even if i did the police would have found me i mean i live like 2 blocks from the place and even called the police that no one was hit that day, so it was PARANOIA!!!!!!! plzzzzz.........so i'm asking you as a person that needs mental help, wat should i know about hit and run accidents, is their anything you can tell me to prove to myself i was not in a hit and run accident. my car does not have any dents or broken cracked glass. plzzzzz people help..................

  1. as a person with experience with fear and OCD I'll tell you they're 2 different things. Right now it sounds like you have a fear of hitting someone. you have to try and think back to what caused this. I've learned through therapy that fear is based on your left/right brain not connecting so a shrink is a great place to go to get help with that because they have exercises they can do such as EMDR which will help you connect the sides of your brain to process it and get rid of the fear. OCD is completely different. OCD is where you do certain things everyday at the same time or certain things you have to do (you've heard about washing hands or having to shut a door 3 times before walking out it) and that doesn't really stem from a fear, it's an effort to control your environment where you feel like you have no control so you do these series of actions to feel like you're in control of yourself. I highly recommend therapy especially if it's taking over your life.

  2. Honestly, this sounds like a a case of OCD, the reason I say this is because I have it, a different fear though.  I have images of something I would not rather say that come in my head at random times maybe 100-150 a day, that scare me to death.  All they do is make me panic and when I get frustrated i cry about it.  But I have learned to live with it over all. It's been 8 years. I went to doctors, therapists, meds etc.  Look up the book called "Brain Lock" and search about Pure-O form of OCD. thanks. I pray you find the answers you are looking for.

P.S.  There is no answer,  You can try to root it back and unlock some hidden answer deep inside that you feel might be the root, but there is no root.  Just fear which leads to you hating the thought more, in turn it is a cycle that.  It feeds off itself.  The more you try not to think about it, the more you will. Use a Paradox effect,  say, "No Big Deal"  and refocus on something else.  Wish you luck. All the best.

  3. I believe that would be OCD. A common misconception is that OCD is just when you want everything clean or wash your hands a lot. Really it is a wide range of thing that can be like extreme paranoia or extreme superstition. I think i have the second. At least i think cuz sometimes i will think if i make one choice something bad will happen. I have read scenario like this in an OCD book actually. You can either try to stop yourself from thinking this on your own. Some people think its easy but you dont understand unless you have it. Or you can go see psychiatrist  or whatever you know.
