What are the causes of bipolar disorder?

  1. I think it has to do with how you were raised and what you have been through, so yes, depression could be a cause of bi polar, i know this because I am bi polar, and it was diagnosed until my mom died.


  2. depression is one half of bipolar disorder (the other half being mania).  Often, bipolar patients first seek help for depression (either the manias are not severe, or the don't consider them 'a problem' because it feels good).

    Bipolar disorder does have a strong genetic component (runs in families, some members may be more affected than others).  

    Trauma and brain injuries can also cause changes in brain functioning which can include bipolar disorder.  The abuse of some types of drugs can cause similar changes (although one has to ask if the person had problems to start with).


  3. depression  can be. a trauma to to brain, chem ail in balance. lack of sterontene, lack of dopomene. mental  abuse as a child. there are many factors that lead to bipolar disorder.
