  1. no more harvesting of trees allowed, so more brush grows. Animal don`t eat brush so they starve to Death. Indians burned off mountains to promote more food grow for animals!

  2. Animal species have always been endangered, and going extinct. There have been times when many species appear to have vanished close in time to each other.

When it has taken a very long time for a species to evolve to be able to survive in its environment, then   that environment changes, the species may or may not be able to adapt.

When a species is living in one area, even something as mundane as a big flood can wipe out the whole population... or a deeper-than usual drought, desertification. conversion of a forest habitat to farmland, drainage of wetland, or introduction of more effective predator(s).

Even having another competing species eating the food a species is dependent on can wipe out the species.

  3. Habitat destruction

Non-native species being introduced and  competing for     food, shelter, territory

    Poaching

All of these things are caused by humans.

  4. If you look at a list of endangered, threatened and recently-extinct animals, together with the causes, you will see that the majority are listed as "loss of habitat".

  5. there are many reasons. some are have experienced habitat loss others have fallen victim to exotic species. some may have been hunted in the past while others have experienced a combination of these factors.

  6. When the sea ice on the sea between Attu and the Russian Coastline is open for the first time in man kinds history, then there's problems. The seal have no place to "Birth" they need the ice to raise the "pups" and hunt for fish.

The Walruses need the ice over deep water spots for birthing also. There's an estimated four thousand pups that have died or, that predators have killed, due to the loss of this ice.

The Polar bear has to have the snow on the ice to "Birth" and raise their cubs, there is no ice and, they've started rearing the cobs on the shore. The Grizzly and Brown bears have been harassing and killing the cubs. The Polar bear may become extinct by 2020.

The Arctic fox, the sea Otter, the Ptarmigan, etc. Have you not been watching the news, the National Geographic channels? it's all over the Networks.

Clinton W. is correct to some degree but, he did say "Natural selection" not manmade.

  7. To many humans taking up to much space and destroying the environment.

  8. The biggest cause is people. We have have totally destroyed habitats by deforestation, by urbanisation, by our diet, by overpopulation, by pollution, man made global warming, by introducing invasive species etc etc. We have also hunted a lot of species to extinction and are still doing so despite laws/quotas that are in place to help prevent it.

  9. Nothing has really changed. It's just now there are so many "save the x*x" organizations out there who are funded by Federal Grants that they keep growing.

Stop the Madness.  STOP Federal Grants for LOONIES!

  10. Extinction is a natural part of natural evolution.  Any species that does not have adaptive behaviors or already has a small population is vulnerable to extinction.  Some animals just adapt to change better than others.  Raccoons, for instance can live in just about any environment.  Pandas on the other hand must have a specific temperature range and can only eat a certain type of bamboo.

A mass extinction is when a large number of species go extinct due to some event.  The dinosaurs going extinct was the first mass extinction.  They say that we are currently in the third mass extinction, which is being caused by human activity.  The causes include the drastic climate changes, the increase in transportation of exotic species, loss of habitat, and over harvesting.
