Should I start with Linux administration or Networking and security. Is this same with Solaris. What are the starting certification point for a fresher and what are the certifications codes offered by different Associations. Appreciate your answers at the earliest.

  1. Yes go for cisco certifications like CCNA,CCIE ,etc.

  2. At the risk of not answering your question, the field you follow should be one you're more passionate and more competent in.  Networking is more portable, so if you plan to move around a lot, you might want to consider that.

I would suggest self-study as the best way to get off the ground.  Cheap routers (2600 series) and switches (1900s) can be picked up off of ebay, as can cheap solaris boxes.  If you get some basic proficiency, you can get a job, and then get your employer to pay the steep rates for classes and certifications, such as a CCNA or a RHCE.
