I only worked at Dunkin' Donuts for 2 months, because the new manager fired everyone ( he wanted to run a family business ). The old timers sued, but I stayed out of it, and yet I still cannot find a job anywhere. What are the chances of me getting another job? I'm about to be 18 in December, so will that increase my chances?

  1. man, since your still young, you probly have only 2 choices, fastfood and retail. they take everyone.

  2. Think of yourself as an employer. Your first choice in an employee would be someone you know and whom you know can do the job. Assuming you don't have a network of people to work for you, you must then recruit capable help. Some jobs require experience (related or non related skills) while others are "entry level." You sometimes have legal age restrictions so adults are your best bet there (selling alcohol, tobacco, etc) and adults are often more flexible to scheduling hours. This is to say that being 18 will be more an advantage than being almost 18. Being 17 is more an advantage over being 15 or 16, if you catch my drift. Yes, you CAN get a job now or when you're 18. Realize that the economy is slow and there are more people looking for jobs (full time and part time and second jobs) than there are jobs. What you need to do is examine what you can do, like doing, and are good at doing in order to determine what jobs to apply for and what not to waste your time doing. When school starts, march into your guidance officer's office to see if they have any local job leads for you. Have them work with you on interviewing and resume writing. Ask if your school has a program called "Distribute Education" which will help place you into jobs and give you school credit for your working hours. The more you know, the more you can offer. If you can't find a traditional job, you can use your skills and interests in your own business and make more money than an employer will pay you. Consider teaching, tutoring, refinishing furniture, selling energy light bulbs, washing cars, mowing lawns, website design, babysitting, or whatever you can do to make money and gain experience. I know you can do it. Your objective now is to show prospective employers that you can do it. Network with family, friends, stores you shop at now, restaurants nearby, etc. Start your job search TODAY.
