What are the chances of a boxer getting hurt?

I'm a beginner but I've been getting really into boxing lately.. But my mom doesn't approve, she says it's too dangerous. She says sooner or later I'll get hurt, so I should stop. But when I look at other boxers in the gym or even professionals, its' not that often that I see them seriously injured. What are the chances of a boxer sustaining a serious injury like a broken nose, ripped cornea, broken jaw/ribs, teeth knocked out, e.c.t? of course, not boxing as a professional but just training and sparring, and maybe an amateur bout later. Oh, and i'm about 68 kilograms.. that's welterweight, right?

  1. what are the chances of a boxer getting hurt:100%. if your talking about getting seriously injured for you not too likely.

if your a beginner and just sparring you have head gear which protects you a great deal from head injurys.

when you begin boxing they teach you fitness and the techniques of punching and blocking.right now you should not be trying to hurt your opponents but trying to land clean puches and evading punches.if you are then that gym and trainers there are bad ones.now in years to come if you are good enough and decide to enter the amateur ranks thats when you will have to worry about serious injury.in a amateur fight the chances of getting a broken nose , rib or jaw are high unless you are very good.i use to box (sparring) and play soccer but the only bone brakeing injurys i got was from soccer.so to round off your safe now but if you become serious about boxing and enter amateur fights later then you may come in contact with serious injurys.

  2. 100%

  3. Excellent; the number one injury for boxers is brain damage, it does not show up through external observation.

  4. there is always a risk of getting hurt in the ring. getting your teeth knocked out is not in the least one of the worries you should have as this is very rare b/c of the mouthpieces that are worn. A broken nose is a common injury and over time boxers who don't protect themselves can develop head trauma. Those I would say I the most common injuries in boxing. There are other injuries that could happen such as a broken hand from punching the wrong way, a broken jaw, and broken ribs which can happen but aren't as common as the above two.

When you are involved in any contact sport there is a risk involved and if you are not prepared to deal those those risks then you should not be involved.
