  1. It like traveling any other way thiers a 50-50 change a place could crash as a road accident, rail accident or sea accident

  2. About 1 in 11 million.

On the other hand, your chances of being killed in an car accident are 1 in 5000. Statistically, you are at far greater risk driving to the airport than getting on an plane.

  3. There is always a remote chance some little thing can go terribly wrong. If your car malfunctions, you get stranded at the side of the road. If a plane malfunctions, you die.

  4. I don't know the odds, but i truly believe that you are more likely to die from picking your nose... (and I mean it)

  5. the chances are if there is a really great storm and raining or if a nail fell from the plane than the plain becomes untied.

  6. Very small indeed

By comparison, motorcyclists run the greatest risk of death (I am one) but this doesn't help because I am afraid of flying anyway.  My Doctor prescribed me something to take pre flight which helps reduce the nerves enormously.

The cause of the latest MD-82 crash in Spain will be thoroughly investigated and measures will be brought in to prevent its re-occurrence.  I remember in the 70's crashes were on the news every couple of months - nowadays its quite rare - flying will get safer and safer, but planes won't stop crashing. Statistically its very very safe.

  7. Aaaaaaparantly its the safest way to travel. I dont reckon, once something goes wrong it's a looooooong way down. There has been alot more plane accidents lately for some reason..... it's all a bit sus to me.

  8. Actually, facts show that:

Air travel remains the safest form of travel:

165 times safer than going by car

    27 times safer than rail

    2,200 times safer than cycling!

SO YOU DONT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT IT! :)

  9. Not sure of odds?? Flying is by the amount of flights world wide per day still considered 1 of the safets forms of transport. I personally dont like flying myself and only fly p****d in all honesty!!

  10. you're more likely to die in a car crash, you just don't realise coz it happens like every day, so it's never in the news. it's just coz plane crashes are like 2 a year maybe that they get bigged up so much and the press get so involved. and not just anybody can fly a plane - i'm sure the pilots know what they're doing. i watched a tv program the other day about some cargo plane in like afghanistan (they were british pilots though) that got hit with a missile and the pilots managed to land it safely.

there's basically 3 ways that flying a plane can go wrong - mechanical failure, terrorism, and turbulence.

    1. statistically you are more likely to get hit by lightning (not on a plane though), than be on a plane that crashes due to turbulence.

    2. mechanical failures are REALLY not likely to happen what with the amount of health and safety these days and the amount of pre-flight checks etc.

    3. the amount of terrorism these days is low. when it happens, it's usually bad, but i can't think of many more attacks than 9/11, 7/7, and those madrid bombings (whenever they were).

    so basically, don't be scared.

  11. ur 1 million times more likely to be involved in a car crash than a plane crash ma man, u know how many flights there are daily? a kazillionbillionmillion

  12. Its safer than crossing the road, but I know its scarey. I always think about the number of cabin crew who spend their entire career on flights, that helps me fly occasionally.

  13. 50/50 its either going to stay in the air until it lands or its going to stop flying and fall to the ground killing everybody in a horrific fireball.

  14. Flying is safe mate. A passenger plane rarely malfunctions. I know what you mean though, it is scary when you hear the full scale of it on the news. Im flying on saturday & have no concerns about it.

  15. Risk is such a weird thing y'know. All different aspects affect how you percieve a risk. You believe that the chances of plane crashing are much more something to worry about than the chances of crossing a road or getting into a car. But actually, this is not true at all. So many car crashes happen every year, and so many people getting run over. The reason why they arent reported in the news is because it's so much more common! The reason why this plane crash was reported as a big deal is BECAUSE it was so rare. So by seeing this in the news its a good sign!

Most well-known airlines have never had a crash. So the chances are nearly nil on that one! And as for being scared, if your going to be scared about this, then be petrified of getting into a car, be petrifide of walking to the library.

  16. I don't think it is up to chance, its what pilot you have or what time of the day it is.  But if there is a problem u probably will die.

  17. Yeah man! Right? How terrible would that be!?!?
